Cold Air Flowing Southward Into TX; Light Rain and Stronger Winds to Come Southward...

Widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms continue across western Arkansas, much of Oklahoma and northwest Texas behind the cold front this morning.  Light snow and flurries are also falling across portions of the Texas Panhandle and east-central New Mexico as well.

This activity will spread Southward through much of Texas behind the front today, mainly falling as light rain, drizzle and spotty showers by the time they reach the central and southern two-thirds of the state.  Locally  heavier amounts are possible near the Louisiana border:

Colder temperatures are gradually filling in behind the front and rain shield, with current readings in the 30s and 40s over northwest Texas and the panhandle region:

These colder temperatures will spread Southward throughout the day, with readings in central and southern Texas falling from their current levels during the afternoon.  In the Austin area, for example, the temperature is currently 73 degrees, but will fall into the 50s during the afternoon.

Winds will also pick-up during the afternoon, out of the North at 10-20 mph with higher gusts, putting even a bit more chill into the air...
