Typhoon Ma-on Advancing Toward Japan


Typhoon Ma-on continues to advance toward the island of Japan.  At 9pm Japan Standard Time (JST), the center of Ma-on was located near 25.2 North Latitude / 133.8 East Longitude, and was moving Northwest at 13 mph.  Maximum sustained winds were estimated at 115 mph, with gusts to 145 mph.

Ma-on is forecast to continue Northwest to North/Northwestward today and Monday, then turn more toward the North to Northeast late Monday into Tuesday:


This will bring the threat of Typhoon conditions to the heart of the island from Tuesday into Wednesday.  At that time, the system is forecast to have sustained winds of 110-130 mph.  Very heavy rains and dangerous storm surge will also be likely.
