Rarely Used "High Risk" Severe Weather Forecast for Today...

The above is the latest severe weather outlook for today from the SPC in Norman, OK.  Severe thunderstorms are possible anywhere within the yellow shaded regions.  An enhanced risk of severe storms, including possibly strong and damaging tornadoes, is forecast within the red shaded region.  A rarely used "High Risk" of severe storms (including damaging tornadoes) is also forecast for today, within the areas shaded in pink.

The enhanced risk and high risk areas for severe storms (including the possibility of strong, damaging tornadoes) this afternoon & evening includes the cities of Dallas, Shreveport, Little Rock, El Dorado, Texarkana, Memphis, and Paducah.

A very volatile weather situation is shaping up for later this afternoon into this evening and tonight.  Supercell thunderstorms are forecast to develop by mid-afternoon along and ahead of a dryline and south of a warm front across northeast Texas (much like yesterday afternoon, only a bit further to the East initially). This activity is then forecast to move/develop Eastward into adjacent portions of Arkansas and Louisiana into the late afternoon & evening hours.

Very large hail, damaging winds and strong, damaging tornadoes are possible in the areas outlined in red and pink on the image above.  Residents of this region should remain very alert this afternoon & evening.  Have a tornado safety plan in place and be prepared to seek shelter immediately if threatening weather approaches your area.

Elsewhere across the areas shaded in yellow in the image above, strong to locally severe thunderstorms are forecast to develop along and near a frontal boundary from parts of the Northeast into the Ohio and Tennessee Valley this afternoon and evening.  Large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes will be possible with any organized severe storm that forms in these areas.
